28 MARCH 2004On Sunday Colchester Cavaliers were host to Smugglers Rugby Club, a Dutch side who were stopping at Mill Road on their way to Harwich having been on tour in Wales. The game started badly when referee Andrew Sarek had his glasses broken by a ball in the face, but it didn't stop Colchester from racing to a 36-3 half-time lead. The second half saw the myopic Sarek literally turning a blind eye to a number of indiscretions by Smugglers who got back into the game with 5 tries, but the Cavaliers ran out 55-27 winners in a game that was played in the true spirit of rugby, when the result counted for little and where many new friends were made.
